The Environmental Benefits of using airBOSS.
Corporate responsibility (CR) within companies factors high on the long term sustainability of an organisation.
The CIPD states, “At its core, corporate responsibility seeks to add value to an organisation’s activities by ensuring they have a positive impact on society, the environment and the economy.”
Using products that require high usage of rubber has an impact on the environment. How much impact is determined by a number of factors:
- The source of rubber used.
- Longevity of the rubber based product.
- Opportunity to re-cycle.
How can airBOSS help your company have a lower impact on the environment compared to using standard pneumatic, semi-solid and solid tyres? Consider these three factors:
The source of rubber used.
airBOSS rubber segments are manufactured in the UK within a production facility certified under BS EN ISO 9001 : 2015. We do not buy in rubber compound, we procure all the ingredients used in our formulation from approved sources and mix to our specification. The compound does not contain any of the ingredients on the SVHC (substance of very high concern) listings and confirms to REACH SVHC 1,2 & 3.
Longevity of the rubber based product.
In a previous airBOSS blog post (www.airbosstyre.com/durability-of-airboss) it was highlighted that airBOSS segments last up to four times longer than a standard tyre. This fact alone provides an insight into how through longevity, airBOSS has a lower impact on the environment.
Opportunity to re-cycle.
Here is where airBOSS really wins out. How so? If you are using a vehicle with standard pneumatic tyres and a tyre is damaged, quite often the rim of the wheel is also damaged. Lost time occurs in waiting for the rim and tyre replacement – an additional benefit to airBOSS (www.airbosstyre.com/savetime), but in terms of environmental impact both the rim and damaged tyre are usually scrapped.
Each wheel and tyre manufacturer choses their route for recycling, but by using airBOSS disposal of the rim can be completely avoided. As an air-tight seal is not required with airBOSS, the rim can easily be repaired, often on-site. In fact, in the majority of situations, an airBOSS rim will last for the lifetime of the vehicle – no requirements for recycling.
When it comes to airBOSS segments what happens to them after they are too damaged or worn to use? Again an advantage becomes obvious. Rather than recycling a full tyre, each segment can be processed individually and as a high percentage of the segment is metal, it can be refurbished and reused*.
* The ability to fully re-furbish can be affected if the segment damage is beyond repair. In these instances, airBOSS will dispose of the metal segment in an environmentally friendly manner for re-use elsewhere.
So through longevity, re-cycling of segments not full tyres and simple repairs to rims rather than scrapping them, it is clear that airBOSS can lower your environmental impact supporting your CR.
